| Topics: The Will to Succeed This highly inspirational talk focuses on one man's fight for survival at sea and the lessons he learned from the experience. Anthony set out from Nome, Alaska, in Audacity, an inflatable speedboat, to follow the Alaskan coastline through the Bering Strait and across the Arctic Circle to the north shore of the Yukon and into the NWT. Over 100 nautical miles north of the Arctic Circle he was capsized by a rogue wave in the midst of a howling storm. Anthony spent the next few hours trying not to die while desperately fighting to stay alive. Wayward Sailor The story of Anthony's long and meticulous research to determine the true facts about the complex life of the late Tristan Jones, popular Welsh adventurer and sailing author. A talented and experienced sailor who completely reinvented himself at the age of 40, Jones had a gifted imagination. He claimed a page or more of international sailing records, few of which he had actually earned. He lost both his legs within a decade but neither amputation stopped him sailing. In spite of his transgressions, the enigmatic Tristan Jones, hard-sailing nautical maverick, was, above all, a superior storyteller. BAYCHIMO, Arctic Ghost Ship No vessel that sailed the Arctic seas has raised so much speculation or triggered imaginations as has the legendary Hudsons's Bay Company ship Baychimo. Anthony tells the incredible tales of the hardy ship and her sometimes irascible captain, Sydney Cornwell, as they travelled each year to the Arctic on trading voyages. In 1931 they lingered too long in the ice and Baychimo became irrevocably trapped. Abandoned by her crew she spent the next few decades adrift in a huge pan of old ice. She was often seen and occasionally boarded but no one could save her. Teamwork: Expedition Style This talk is based on Anthony's experiences as the organizer and leader of long-range expeditions in the Sahara and the deserts of the Middle East. It also incorporates his thoughts on being an expedition team member on a voyage down the first half of Manitoba's historic Hayes River with 12 members of the Cree First nation from Norway House, and a later continuation to Hudson Bay by canoe with four biologists and another writer. Highlights lessons learned regarding planning and organizational skills, in addition to the value of delegation and recognizing the strengths within a team. For writers: Anthony Dalton also shares his writing experiences with a series of topics and workshops specifically designed for writers groups and organizations.
